Many times, it seems, the public at-large is simply unaware of the resources found on the web. When we have a question, we will often ask a friend, coworker or surf the top hits on Google or Wikipedia.
However, one of the simplest resources for both tweens and their parents/guardians is simply using ".gov" when doing a search on Google. The ".gov" will (in many cases) take the searcher to hits that are created and maintained by federal or state governments and, therefore, are seen as more "official" than random sites created by unknown individuals that may pop up on a search list.
Here are some examples:
1. Safety tips for tweens and teens online: http://www.onguardonline.gov/topics/safety-tips-tweens-teens.aspx
2. Resources for teens (general government resources): http://www.usa.gov/Topics/Teens.shtml
3. National Institute for Drug Abuse teen website: http://teens.drugabuse.gov/
4. General interest page for younger tweens and kids: http://www.kids.gov/
5. Dating violence (geared more toward caregivers): http://www.atg.wa.gov/protectingyouth/teendatingviolence.aspx
6. Health and development (for parents): http://www.nichd.nih.gov/
